Healing Toxic Shame Through Recovery edition by Mark Smith LCSW Health Fitness Dieting eBooks

When I first read the title of this book, I thought, I don't have any shame! I purchased it because I watch Mark Smith's videos on YouTube about Narcissistic Abuse. I watched his raw pain and I remember being so sad, pathetic, and confused years ago from a horrible narcissistic relationship. I wondered how Mark a therapist could talk about his raw pain on youtube, and not want to run and hide or delete the video before he ever posted it. I felt so uncomfortable listening, I wanted to shut it off. I'm so glad I didn't.. It led me to healing tears, and an understanding of what had happened in my life. Now I know that I have tons of unresolved shame. Now I know how Mark can make youtube videos about his pain, and actually post them for all the world to see. He has worked hard healing his shame, and he has the confidence to show us how it's done. If you don't think you have shame read this book, you may be surprised what unresolved shame can cause in your everyday life.I have a long way to go before I'm completely healed, but with Mark Smith's Youtube channel, (familytreecounseling ) I've received the incredible, instant, healing gift of validation. Healing Toxic Shame Through Recovery edition by Mark Smith LCSW Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews

Mark gets a lot of things right about the costs and deep pain caused by toxic shame. He is clearly a servant of his clients and dedicated to supported his clients and readers to heal. However, Mark is also stuck in an old paradigm of the "disease model" of addiction and the belief that abandonment issues are a life long struggle that one can never overcome. While it is a compassionate view - it is limiting!

I have had deeply held abandonment issues, I came up in an abusive family situation that fostered deep shame and worthlessness. I struggled in relationships and have demonstrated many of the symptoms of abandonment that ended a number of relationships. I felt destroyed. Yet, through deeper energetic work and a willingness to realize the deeper divinity in me - I came to realize that the addiction and shame was a gift that motivated me to a higher calling and vibration. As I have risen in this higher state of consciousness - which is available to EVERYONE - the abandonment and shame have healed. I may still react and there may be more healing to go but the fire breathing dragon Mark notes is more like a yappy little dog now. Bottom line we are never trapped by our psychology - we are so much more than this. It takes deep work but once you touch your inner divinity - you can be healed instantly.

Its time we let this disease model go. It is all we had for years and it is understandable more traditional therapists are still holding onto it but its time for all of us to realize we are far more powerful then the traditional therapy models have indicated. Claim your true power. Its there waiting for you.
A+
I was expecting a more technical book but appreciated the fact that it wasn't. It helped me get a better understanding about the issues i am dealing with and i am truly thankful for finding/reading it. Cheers!
Very informative on the subject, sheds lots of light on ones experiences and explaines a lot of things one didnt understand. And Bravo! for the courage to describe his own experiences by the Author.I agree strongly that only a person who himself/herself was there can help others.
Why did Mark Smith bother to publish this garbage?

After finishing the first 8 chapters, I had had enough. I stopped reading.

The author -- apparently so eager to help his filled-with-toxic-shame readers -- shamelessly didn't even respect his audience enough to put some effort into editing the ebook. Certainly someone who thought his message and readers important would have treated both better.

Layout and writing are the two areas needing the most improvement.

LAYOUT

Text

• Bold font throughout made reading harder. (See first 3 images.)
• Broken paragraphs throughout made reading much harder. (See second image)
• Many long paragraphs making ebook even more tiresome to read. (See third image.)

The three bullet points are the obvious result of the text having been copied from something like Microsoft Word and pasted into whatever ebook format editor Smith was using at the time.

Images

• Not sized properly.
• Most images were of poor quality.
• Many were vaguely relevant.
• Many were seemingly chosen to (somehow) offset the awful, "informal" writing style.

WRITING

Ineffectual, "you've got to be kidding me"-poor quality of writing.

Granted the author's informal writing style might resonate with some readers. I might have given the ebook 2 stars if the quality of writing was merely informal. However, Smith often simply rambles, rambles again, and then rambles some more.

If he had just cared enough he might have edited the text like you'd expect a true professional would have done.

The book's layout and writing quality is like a therapist showing up with her shirt out, clothes smeared with mustard and ketchup, drunk, and smelling like urine.

Smith talks about his psycho-history quite a bit. Again this might appeal to some. But for me it seemed gratuitous given that it seemed I put more effort into reading his ebook than he did in writing it.

Interestingly, he does sprinkle throughout titles of some of his online videos. Some of them were intereting. Though his videos could use more editing, his informal style was much less of an issue.

CONCLUSION

Pass on this one, folks.
